“You have brains in your head.

You have feet in your shoes.

You can steer yourself any direction you choose.

You’re on your own.

And you know what you know.

And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go…”

That poem from Dr Seuss pretty much sums up my PROFESSION as an online business coach who helps coaches to own the worth of the transformation they help facilitate and to charge accordingly.

It’s only recently that I fully got and owned the JOY of that incredible work. There was still some ‘it’s not a real job’ programming lurking, despite my years of training, my vast experience and the long hours and life-changing transformation that I have helped facilitate for so many clients.

I had a close friend, who is very successful different kind of entrepreneur, try to talk me out of this profession, saying that it’s ‘a pyramid scheme’. I can see why she would see it that way and overlook the fact that being successful in this profession requires so much overcoming of oneself… and with that overcoming, one gets the reward of a successful business online, plus the pride of having a profession that offers such fun and freedom!

It’s true that there are some great coaches at the top of the ‘pyramid’ and the coaches beneath are generally learning from them, trying to figure out who they are, who they serve and how to be successful in their business. It can be seen as a virtual village full of barking dogs, with all the dogs trying to bark the loudest to get the most attention. I see that.

But it’s also an incredibly real and exciting job too that requires a huge amount of courage, inner-work and dedication. It’s actually fucking sacred.. and I’m insanely grateful that it’s the work I do. I see those that are trying to be serious and respectful professionals, with incredible letters before and after their name that make them outwardly successful.. but on the inside, they are suffering deeply and so is their health. They are tired of playing the game, tired of pretending and in need of an authentic way where they can show up sincerely, creatively and using their expertise.. without all the bullshit that comes with the ‘safety’ of their monthly salary (whilst their health deteriorates so they are actually far from safe).

I’m grateful that I am my own boss and I can say ‘shit’ in my blogs and don’t have to worry about the consequences of that. Pure freedom… and like Dr Seuss says “You can steer yourself any direction you choose.”

One of the best things about this job, is that in order to be good at it, you’ve got to let go of the fear of what people think. You’ve got to show up loud and proud – or quiet and proud if that’s you – as the person who you truly are, as uninhibited as possible. It’s only in that way that you will attract the clients who resonate with you so that you can help them (yes, did I mention that buckets of courage are necessary?).

And if you are trying to follow a certain ‘proven formula’ or ‘killer strategy’ (pass the bucket) in this profession, you are destined to fail. Because, just like in a romantic relationship where you are trying to be someone you are not in order to get approval, dysfunction and stress will ensue when the cracks show through because it’s exhausting trying to be someone that you are not. So the only option is to be yourself.. and there is no greater gift than self-acceptance and learning to be you as fully as possible. Like Dr Seuss says ““Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.”

On that note, I want to share seven of the most important rules for success as an online coach from my 7 years of online experience. Here they are:

1. Authenticity: because people aren’t stupid and want to work with someone they can trust

2. Courage: because it’s bloody daunting to be so visible

3. Faith … And Flow: because people feel your energy with their 6th sense. If you are in fear or exhaustion with the uncertainty of how much and when you will next earn, it will show. You’ve got to become a master at managing your state and trusting and deciding that your outcome as a successful online coach is guaranteed.

4. Undoing Of Conditioning: you’ve probably got a ton of conditioning that isn’t serving you.. especially around pricing, visibility and sales. Many people enter the coaching industry because they want to help others, but it’s not going to work if you don’t get coaching on how to run a business. It doesn’t matter how good you are at what you do if you don’t have a business mindset – and to be honest, I don’t know of anyone who is ‘really good’ and not succeeding in their business. They are not succeeding because they have shadow – aka limiting beliefs around their success (hence why coaches hire me!)

5. Fun: this is the one of the best parts of the profession. To keep your energy up and experience joy and lightness, you’ve got to be having fun! I got off a coaching call this morning (yes of course I am always a client as well as a coach) with the instruction that I have to completely disrupt my schedule for the next week, not make plans outside of the commitments already set and to decide what I will do when I wake up -what fun is that? What a gift not to have to ‘go to work’! That means I’ll be working a bit from the mountains this next week, I will go to the cinema one afternoon, I’ll swim some mornings, I’ll take the train and visit a new town.. those are just some of the ideas that have come to me. I’d love to hear your suggestions too, comment below.

6. Take Risks: yes risks are necessary… but no more risky than risking your physical and mental health if you are doing something you hate. One of the main risks is the financial one. I’ve invested hugely in myself. I actually could have bought a property with what I invested so far. But my most important property is ME. What good is living in a property that you feel miserable in? Be prepared to take financial as well as other risks – risk people hating you for example. The best part is that when you figure out how to monetize your work successfully, you’ll get to buy that property with your earnings anyway. It’s an awesome goal to strive for.

7. Get over yourself: some days you’ll hit the nail on the head and other days you will flop. Don’t take it all too seriously. Just do your best, keep learning but most of all, keep showing up authentically and keep sharing so that those you are meant to help, know exactly who you are, what you do and how you can help them.
Is this all resonating with you?

Are you ready to step up and claim the life that you know you are meant for?

Then message me. I’ll check with you first about how serious you truly are and if it’s real, we will chat about me helping you to actually claim that future that you know you truly want. But hurry.. you have an expiry date you know…
